About the Owners of Yarra Valley Noctunal Zoo

OUR STORY

Steve and Loo purchased the property in Mount Evelyn when our family was young with the intention of building a sanctuary for our family to grow. Ten years ago we set up A Twist of Willow bed and breakfast so people could stay and enjoy our beautiful propery in the Yarra Valley.

We have always had a passion for animals and slowly built up quite a collection of furry friends. Dominated by farmyard animals.

Seven years ago we purchased some Emus to add to our property. After having success with Emus we were looking to purchase a zoo on kangaroo Island, this turned out not to be suitable as we would have to move our family. At this point the National Disability insurance Scheme was introduced and we hatched a plan to build a zoo.

After working in the disability field for 25 years each we wanted to create a unique disability day service where NDIS participants worked with animals and were able to learn all aspects of zoo keeping and animal husbandy while enhancing their job skills.

We always said to everyone that we are in for a cool ride and where we get off is anyones guess.
